I recently attended a conference in VA where Jillian Michaels was a featured speaker. Now everyone that knows me, know that I’m a SUPER FAN, possibly borderline groupie – but that’s ok. I respect her as a businesswoman, her brand and most importantly her message. My first encounter (at the conference) with her was at a VIP luncheon where she spoke about her life as a new mom, health and wellness, and her driver behind creating her “Maximize Your Life”tour. I also got an opportunity to take a picture (to the left) and got an autograph – you know I was excited about that. So after that session, Jillian took the stage at the conference and one thing she said not only captured my attention but everyone else in the audience. I’ve never heard so many “a-ha’s, ummhmms, and sooo-true’s” than in that moment. Ok ok I’ll get to it, she said “Your health is the platform that your entire life is built upon—from your physical health to your confidence and self-worth” Now if that didn’t statement didn’t blow your mind, than you must be from another planet!
Let’s face it, most people don’t think of their health in that way nor do they take care of themselves like they should. Their health becomes secondary to everything in their life and/or they just ignore what they know to be true. The most common responses I get when I ask, “What is stopping you from exercising and eating healthy?” is: I work too many hours and don’t have time to workout, eating healthy taste bland, I’m addicted to…..and can’t stop eating/drinking it, I don’t want to eat salads all day, who has time to meal prep and the list goes on!. Yet you complain that you don’t have enough energy, your bloated all the time, can’t pass a stool if your life depended on it, can’t sleep at night, you can’t lose weight, you experience brain fog etc. So you know what your symptoms are and know the solution to your problem yet there’s resistance.
Something to think about: If you don’t eat right and take care of your body, how will you be around to fulfill all the things you place before your health? No matter how fulfilled you may think you will feel as you reach your other goals, there will always be that one thing that will leave you feeling incomplete – taking charge of your health and wellness.
Making the transition to living a healthier lifestyle is not an overnight process, but if you make small changes everyday the results will eventually show.
